It's All About Dewi Sartika

Hello guys! Welcome to my blog! So now, I want to tell you about one of the women's emancipation heroes. She was Dewi Sartika. Stay tuned!

Have you ever heard about Dewi Sartika? If haven't, she was one of the women's emancipation heroes. Indeed, her name is not as famous as R.A. Kartini. But I believe, she had an important role in equating the women's dignity.
Dewi Sartika was born in Bandung, December 4, 1884. She was a noble princess. Her father's name was Raden Somanegara and her mother's name was Raden Ayu Permas. When she was a kid, she was forced to part with her parents. Her parents were exiled to Ternate because they disputed the Dutch government. They insisted that Dewi Sartika could attend Dutch school. Then, Dewi Sartika lived with her uncle named Patih Aria who lived in Cicalengka.
At the time when she grew up, not all women were allowed to go to school. She was allowed to go to school because her parents were nobles. But she only could go to elementary school. Education made Dewi Sartika was able to read and write well. Meanwhile, around the dwelling of Dewi Sartika, there were many women who couldn't read and write. Dewi Sartika felt called to share her knowledge.
In 1904, Dewi Sartika founded Sakola Istri. At that time, she was 15 years old. This women's school initially had 20 students. The lessons provided include reading, writing, sewing, crocheting, and religious education. Sakola Istri which founded by Dewi Sartika grew more and more. In its journey, the school changed its name several times into Sekolah Kautaman Istri and later became Sekolah Raden Dewi.
During the war of independence, when the Dutch aggression was under way, Dewi Sartika fled to Cinean, West Java. There, she and the other fighters continued to fight against the Dutch. Dewi Sartika died on September 11, 1947. She earned her "national hero" title in 1966. Her name was immortalized into a street name in many cities in Indonesia.
More or less that's all about Dewi Sartika. Hopefully can be beneficial. Thank you :).
