The Beauty of Batik
Hello guys! Welcome to my blog! So now, I want to tell you about one of Indonesian culture wealth. We usually call it Batik. I'm so sure that most of you guys have ever heard about batik or even have worn it. As the locals, we should be proud of ourselves. Why? Because batik is just had in Indonesia, our beloved country. As one of Indonesian culture wealth, batik certainly has a high historical and aesthetic value.
The history of batik in Indonesia is closely related to the development of Majapahit Kingdom and the spread of Islam on the Java island. In some notes, the development of batik was mostly carried out during the Mataram sultanate, then continued in the era of the Surakarta sultanate and the sultanate of Yogyakarta. Batik art in Indonesia has been known since the days of Majapahit Kingdom and continued to grow until the kingdom continued with its kings. The art of batik in general extends in Indonesia and specifically in Java after the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century.
Batik art is the art of drawing on cloth for clothing which became one of the royal family cultures in ancient Indonesia. Initially batik activities were limited to the palace and batik was produced for the king's clothes and the government and officials' family. Because many of the dignitaries lived outside palace, the batik art brought by them came out of the palace and produced in their respective places. Over time, this batik art was imitated by the common people and further expanded to become the work of the household women to fill their spare time.

The aesthetic value of batik is decided by the motive and inclusion. The more and better batik motive, the more expensive it will be. This is directly proportional to the length of time needed to make batik. But, some of boutiques in Indonesia sell batik in a higher price because of the kind of the fabric used to make batik. The fabrics used are varied. There are cotton and silk fabrics. But, the more expensive one is silk fabric because it's softer and shiny if exposed to light.
Here are some of batik's motives :Batik Megamendung ~ Cirebon
Batik Kawung ~ Yogyakarta
Batik Sekar Jagad ~ Solo

Batik Pekalongan ~ Pekalongan

Now, batik has been established as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity since October 2nd, 2009 by United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
